Home | How many toilets do I need?
Pick your hire, add your numbers and get a starting figure based on the guidance event organisers and contractors work from.
The calculator uses published UK guidance. It gives you a sensible starting point, and we confirm the right mix with you.
The Purple Guide is the UK guidance most event organisers and licensing teams work from. For a typical local event it suggests one toilet per 100 women, plus one toilet per 500 men and one urinal per 150 men.
Events that run longer, serve alcohol or happen in hot weather need more, so the calculator adds a margin for those and we will advise on the rest.
On sites, the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 require toilets and washing facilities, and HSE workplace guidance sets the minimum numbers by headcount.
| People at work | Toilets | Washbasins |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 5 | 1 | 1 |
| 6 to 25 | 2 | 2 |
| 26 to 50 | 3 | 3 |
| 51 to 75 | 4 | 4 |
| 76 to 100 | 5 | 5 |
For more than 100 people, talk to us and we will plan it with you.
For public events we recommend at least one accessible unit, and the calculator includes it. On sites, add one if anyone needs it.
Plan hand washing alongside every toilet block. On building sites, washbasins are required next to the toilets.

For a typical local event, the Purple Guide suggests one toilet per 100 women, plus one toilet per 500 men and one urinal per 150 men. Longer events, hot weather and alcohol all increase that.
HSE guidance asks for at least one toilet and washbasin for 1 to 5 people, two for 6 to 25, three for 26 to 50, four for 51 to 75 and five for 76 to 100.
For public events we recommend at least one. On building sites, add one if anyone on site needs it.
